Abstract
Description
This 1979 darśana on Yoga Sūtras I.17–19 discusses stages of concentrated meditation. Baba Hari Dass describes samprajñāta samādhi as progressing through reasoning on gross objects (vitarka), subtle reflection (vicāra), bliss (ānanda), and pure “I-am-ness” (asmitā). These lead toward the higher state of asamprajñāta samādhi, beyond all mental impressions. Supreme detachment (paravairāgya) supports this process, ultimately dissolving saṁskāras and revealing kaivalya (liberation). The text also notes beings who naturally enter exalted states, such as videha (bodiless) or prakṛtilaya (absorbed in nature).
